The Jonas Brothers are back! After close to six years spent doing their own solo work, Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas have reunited to release a new album, “Happiness Begins.” They also put out a new documentary on Amazon, “Chasing Happiness,” about how their reunion came about after a tough split in 2013.
The brothers are getting largely positive reviews of their new album with its more mature but still pop-centric sound. Let’s revisit these musical siblings and some more obscure facts about 31-year-old Kevin, 29-year-old Joe and 26-year-old Nick. Feel old yet?

Kevin Jonas had some hobbies and ways of dressing that got him teased as a kid. He liked magic, gymnastics and pole vaulting, according to the “Chasing Happiness” Amazon documentary that was released in June.
“I became a target,” he said. “Kids were cruel at that age. They would call me gay, they would call me f–, piss head. It would break me down. I remember coming home from school and crying to my parents.”
Nick Was Dangerously Skinny Before Being Diagnosed with Diabetes
Nick was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes early on during the Jonas Brothers’ rise to fame. Signs that something might be wrong were his having to pee constantly and unusual diet habits. He was super skinny to the point that his brothers thought he looked skeletal. He now relies on an insulin pump to maintain his blood sugar.
Joe Used to Flat Iron His Hair
“I think my flat iron hair and my squeaky voice are a little embarrassing,” Joe Jonas said in his frank 2016 Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session that was jokingly titled, “I’m Joe Jonas, former flat iron hair model, ask me anything!”

Their Dad Quit His Pastor Job Because of Pressures After the Band’s Success
The Jonas Brothers’ dad, Kevin Jonas Sr., was a Christian pastor for many years while also pursuing music producing and, eventually, managing his sons as a side business. However, once the Jonas Brothers were headed on a secular, rather than religious, musical path, Jonas Sr. felt pressure from his church and eventually quit.
Nick Was the One Who Wanted to Perform First
Although he’s the youngest, it was Nick Jonas who initially wanted to have a music career.
A 2008 Rolling Stone profile about the band said that Nick got a manager after a fellow salon customer where his mom was getting her hair done saw him singing songs for candy money. According to Kevin Jonas Sr., “One day, a woman was there whose son had been in the Broadway cast of ‘Les Miserables,’ she said, ‘He needs a manager, because my son did this, and he can do this.'”
Nick’s brothers eventually wrote a song for him, and their dad and other music industry reps saw potential in a trio over just Nick. Another fun fact? J3 was the first band name suggested to the brothers, which they rejected.
Being Disney Figures Wasn’t All Fun
The Jonas brothers have said they are grateful that Disney helped launch their careers. But a decade later they have also shared that it was hard to live up to the perfect image Disney had crafted for them.
“Being a part of the Disney thing for so long will make you not want to be this perfect little puppet forever,” Joe Jonas wrote in a recent column for Vulture.
They Hated Talking About Those Purity Rings
Now that all three brothers are married, they can be more frank about how much it bothered them when people focused on their purity rings — jewelry typically worn by evangelical Christians as a sign of sexual abstinence — and their dating and sex lives when they were growing up.
“The very simple answer is that it was incredibly annoying,” Nick told Harper’s Bazaar about the purity rings specifically. “And then it became a defining factor of who we were as a band, which was disappointing. I was just trying to navigate love, and romance, and what sex even meant to me, at a sensitive age.”

There’s a Fourth Jonas Brother
Did you know there’s another Jonas brother? Frankie Jonas is much younger than his famous older brothers and has largely stayed out of the spotlight. He did, however, appear in Nick’s music video for “Remember I Told You,” playing guitar. So he apparently has some musical talent as well.
“I am their number one fan,” Frankie said of his brothers at the end of “Chasing Happiness.” “I know every lyric of every song, I can recite every story of how they were made. I love their music, so much.”

Nick and Joe Are Cigar Aficionados
In addition to music, Nick and Joe share a love of cigars.
“We will hopefully plan a trip to Cuba soon and can go to factories and smoke cigars the entire time we’re there,” Joe said in his 2016 Reddit AMA. “The reason I love cigars is because I grew up around lot of people who smoked cigars and I always loved the smell. Then I tried one for myself and I think I got horribly sick. I also had a smoothie right before, so I was hugging the toilet for a few hours (that means throwing up). Now, I love them. I think it’s a nice little past time and a little vice in my life.”
They Once Beat Hanson at Broomball
Brother boy band against brother boy band. Who wins? According to Joe Jonas in that 2016 Reddit interview, the Jonas Brothers once took down Hanson in a game of broomball.
“We actually once played Hanson in a broomball tournament against New Kids On The Block and we beat Hanson really good,” he said. “We swept the floor with them, but New Kids On The Block kind of put us to shame and made us realize that we’re children.“
Joe Has Some A-List Man Crushes
Joe Jonas has a few man crushes but Daniel Craig is an ongoing favorite.
“I have had multiple Daniel Craig birthday cakes in my life,” he said. “One was a photo of him coming out of the water from ‘Casino Royale’ and they made it into a cake.” Matthew McConaughey is another guy he loves.
“I think he’s the man,” Joe said of McConnaughey. “So, between those two, there’s a lot of man-crushing going on.”
Kevin Met His Wife While They Were Both On Vacation
Kevin met his future wife, Danielle, in 2007 while they were both vacationing separately with their families in the Bahamas. She apparently didn’t know who he was. They got engaged two years later in 2009 and married that same year.
Joe ‘Met’ Sophie Turner on Instagram
“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner first connected with husband Joe Jonas on Instagram.
“We had a lot of mutual friends, and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” she told Harper’s Bazaar UK. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”
The pair married in a surprise civil ceremony in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019. They’re planning for a bigger wedding in Europe this summer.
Nick ‘Met’ Priyanka Chopra on Twitter
Once again showing that social media is the new “our managers introduced us,” Nick Jonas first contacted “Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra on Twitter. They quickly moved the conversation to text and then an old-fashioned in-person date. The pair married in lavish ceremonies in 2018.

Nick Could Happily Live on a Farm
“Nick still shows us listings of farms,” Joe recently told Harper’s Bazaar. “He’ll say, ‘There’s this one in Pennsylvania,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.'”
Priyanka Chopra supposedly likes the idea though. “The farm is very much in play. She loves the idea,” Nick told the magazine.
They All Have Tattoos — Some of Which Match
All three Jonas Brothers have tattoos. Nick’s “Mercy” tattoo is visible below. He has another one meaning “God is greater than the highs and the lows.” And he and Joe have matching arrow tattoos.
Kevin has a tattoo of his wife’s name, Dani, on his ring finger. He also has four small doves inked on his inner left arm, representing his family.
Joe has a number of tattoos including one of a slice of cake, one of Freddie Mercury, an ax and a matching “Toy Story” one with wife Sophie Turner.
Nick Suggested the Band’s Split in 2013
It was Nick who sat down with his brothers and said he wanted to split up and work on separate projects.
“It was not, ‘My heart’s not in it, and I want to be real with you as band members and brothers, this is where I’m at,'” Joe recalls in the “Chasing Happiness” documentary, of Nick breaking up the band in 2013. “It was, ‘The band is over, I want to go do stuff without you guys, and I’ve made up my mind.'”
Joe ‘Lost It’ After the Band Broke Up

“I was seeing a therapist and I wasn’t on speaking terms with my brothers,” Joe said during his Reddit AMA in 2016 about the band’s split. “And maybe I was a little envious of Nick because I knew that he already had kind of a leg up and had plans to work on music already and he was creating and producing. So, I was probably mad at him, too. I remember kind of losing it a little bit and I didn’t speak to anybody. I closed myself off and we cancelled the tour and didn’t really know what was going on.”
Kevin Was Fairly Happy To Be Done With the Jonas Brothers Life
“After four years of craziness, I was living my best life,” the oldest brother says in “Chasing Happiness.”

Kevin Became an Entrepreneur During the Band’s Hiatus
After the Jonas Brothers split, Kevin moved on and into business. He started The Blu Market, which is described as an “influencer marketing company.”
“I’ve always had a passion for the tech industry and I like to help build interesting products,” Kevin told Forbes in 2016. “Being in a band is very much like a startup.”
Kevin’s Daughters Hadn’t Seen Him Perform With Their Uncles Until Recently
Kevin and Danielle have two daughters. Alena Rose was born in February 2014 and Valentina Angelina was in October 2016. Because they were born after the Jonas Brothers split up, the girls only recently become aware that their dad and their uncles were previously in a band together.
“This is the first time my girls are watching me perform,” Kevin said to the crowd at a recent record release concert for fans.
Nick Has a Doppelganger
The thick hair, the mischievous smile. Nick Jonas has a doppelganger and it’s Nolan Gould from “Modern Family.” Seriously, though, the resemblance is striking. Even Gould thinks so.
“When I was little, everyone used to say I looked like @FrankieJonas,” Gould once jokingly tweeted. “Now they say @NickJonas. Watch out Kevin I’m coming for you next!”
They Sing About Their Wives

Many of the Jonas Brothers’ songs on their new album were inspired by their significant others. And the boys took that inspiration a step further and had their wives star in the music video for “Sucker.” The video is a fun romp around a mansion, and it looks like they had a blast filming it. The three sisters-in-law are pictured below with Kelly Clarkson at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards.

Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra and Danielle Jonas seem to get along and they call themselves the J Sisters. Makes you wonder if Kevin’s girls and any future children the brothers have will band together to call themselves the J Cousins. The trio of spouses will be touring with the band as well.
